After 20 years’ work to win the vote, some women’s rights advocates are outraged. The new 15th Amendment gives black men the vote, but leaves women out. Believing that every citizen has the right to vote, Susan B. Anthony presented her ballot on Election Day. She was arrested for illegal voting. Justice Hunt refused to let her testify. Today, he found her guilty, fining her $100. “I shall never pay a dollar of your unjust penalty,” replied Anthony.
