About Us

The National Constitution Center is an independent, non-partisan, and non-profit organization dedicated to increasing public understanding of, and appreciation for, the Constitution, its history, and its contemporary relevance, through an interactive, interpretive facility within Independence National Historic Park and a program of national outreach, so that "We the People" may better secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity.

Joseph M. Torsella

From the President and CEO

Thank you for your interest in the National Constitution Center.  Over the years, we have welcomed presidents, Supreme Court Justices, foreign dignitaries, and celebrities.  On a daily basis, the sounds of school children and families echo in our halls.  They all have come to experience the exciting presentations, exhibits, and programs the Center has to offer.  I would like to personally invite you to join us for a visit that will be truly unforgettable.

Here, we tell the story of the Constitution’s past and explain the principles of its present to show how “We, the People” can shape the story of its future.  What you see, touch, and hear at this remarkable place will inspire you to do just that.

Your visit will begin with “Freedom Rising”, a state-of-the-art multimedia theater experience designed to connect you - in a direct, engaging, and unforgettable way - with the story of the U.S. Constitution.

In the main exhibition, The Story of We the People, you will have the opportunity to participate in some of the great rites of democracy.  Vote for your favorite President, serve on a jury, decide landmark cases at a replica Supreme Court bench, and even be sworn in as President of the United States.  You can also walk among the life-sized bronze statues of 42 men - the 39 delegates who signed the Constitution and the three who dissented - in Signers’ Hall, a stylized evocation of the Assembly Room where the signers of the Constitution met on September 17, 1787.

Our Chairman, President George H.W. Bush, once referred to the Center as “a jewel of America,” and we think you will agree.  Hope to see you soon!

Sincerely,

Joseph M. Torsella
President and CEO
