MACARENA HERNANDEZ
Macarena Hernandez is a writer for the Dallas Morning News, where she was an editorial columnist until embarking on an education and immigration project. Prior to coming to Morning News, Hernández was the Rio Grande Valley Bureau Chief for the San Antonio Express-News, where she covered South Texas and Northern Mexico.
She has written for The New York Times, The Philadelphia Inquirer and the Los Angeles Times and her work has been anthologized in college textbooks. “The Ballad of Juan Quezada,” a PBS/Frontline World piece she co-produced and reported, aired in 2005. In 2003, Latina named Hernández one of the magazine’s Women of the Year and the following year Hispanic Magazine named her a Trendsetter for 2004. In 2006, the Los Angeles Times named her a media face to watch.
